Howick Doctors Care, known as HowDocsCare, was established in 2024 by a small group of health professionals and people interested in healthcare who are committed to facilitating easy and affordable care to people with significant memory impairment and/or early dementia/Alzheimers, with the potential for some to get better. Research shows that our program is likely to take 20 weeks to yield good results for at least 40% of affected people who commit to this programme. This brings hope to people who previously faced a hopeless and frightening future.  

In 2024 Dr Dean Ornish published the results of an evidenced based, scientifically robust, landmark trial in which 10 out of 24 “early” Alzheimer’s sufferers actually got better. Dr Ornish used a 4 pronged intervention over a 20 week period to achieve this almost miraculous result.  The treatment that draws on Dr Ornish’s work is extremely safe and thoroughly proven.  It involves healthy lifestyle changes that include learning to enjoy eating from a whole food plant-based menu. The only 2 possible dangers are the easily avoided vitamin D and vitamin B12 deficiencies.

The HowDocsCare team is making this intervention available in Howick. Their support and accompaniment will assist people to faithfully follow Dr Ornish’s protocol and will facilitate the implementation of lessons learnt from Dr Ornish.  We are starting with individual sufferers and providing a level of assisted daily living (ADL) in their own homes.
